AFRICA OYE on MELODIC DISTRACTION RADIO
Since the 25th Anniversary Festival, Africa Oyé have joined the Melodic Distraction team to produce a monthly radio show, sharing a mixture of live and DJ recordings from the festival, interviews with artists, organisers and more, as well as guest mixes and live sessions along the way.
The Africa Oyé radio show will be a reflection on what has been and what’s to come in the future.
Melodic Distraction is a community radio, online magazine and events programmer located in the heart of Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle district.

The January show includes a chat between artistic director, Paul Duhaney, and Stephen Nze, a leading member of the Mandela 8 Group. They’re talking South African artists that are playing at the festival as well as some more information on the Mandela Memorial, with a guest mix by Bood’n’Bone taken from last year’s festival’.
November’s show includes an interview with Africa Oyé’s Dave McTague, and a guest mix recorded by DJ Mayeva and George Luke, live at this year’s festival. Dave and Melodic Distraction’s James Zaremba chat about a recent trip to WOMEX Festival.
October’s show includes an interview with artistic director Paul Duhaney and a guest mix recorded by SNO live at this year’s festival. Closing the show is a chat with Spykatcha, talking about the influence of African diaspora and his favourite Oyé moments. Enjoy!

July’s show includes an interview with Africa Oyé Artistic Director, Paul Duhaney, who speaks about where it all began. There is also a mix by No Fakin’s Paddy Quinn recorded live at this year’s festival, as well as a live session with this year’s Emerging Artists, Anwar Ali and Dave Owen, who brought their guitar and oud to the studio for a chat.
